Summary
This article explains how to check the status of your GoDaddy Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate renewal and what to do when the renewal completes. Follow these steps if you received an "SSL Certificate Subscription Renewal" email from GoDaddy or need to confirm that your SSL certificate renewed correctly.
Steps to check your SSL renewal status
Open a web browser and go to https://certs.godaddy.com.
Sign in with your GoDaddy username and password.
On the main page, find your list of SSL certificates or SSL products.
Locate the certificate for your website domain.
Click the certificate name to open the certificate details page.
On the certificate details page, review the status and expiration date to confirm that the renewal is in progress or complete.
Using the renewal email from GoDaddy
GoDaddy may send an email titled "SSL Certificate Subscription Renewal" when the automated renewal starts. The email includes links that make it easy to view the certificate status.
The renewal email usually includes:
A link that opens the certificate details page so you can see the current status and any next steps.
A link to sign in to your GoDaddy certificate account.
A customer support phone number you can call if you have questions about the renewal.
Open the "SSL Certificate Subscription Renewal" email from GoDaddy.
Click the link to open the certificate details page.
Sign in to your GoDaddy account if prompted.
Review the status and expiration date shown on the page.
What to do when the renewed certificate is ready
When GoDaddy finishes the renewal, the renewed certificate becomes available for download on the certificate details page. This may take up to about 14 days from when the renewal starts.
Sign in at https://certs.godaddy.com.
Open the list of your SSL certificates.
Find the renewed or reissued certificate for your website domain.
Click the certificate to open the certificate details page.
Click the option to download the certificate files for your server or hosting platform.
Follow GoDaddy's installation instructions for your hosting control panel or server type to install the renewed certificate.
Replace the old certificate with the newly installed certificate on your server so your website uses the updated SSL certificate.
Update your website or hosting settings to redirect all visitors to the HTTPS version of your pages, if this is not already in place.
Understanding GoDaddy's SSL subscription renewal
GoDaddy uses an automatic SSL certificate subscription process for purchases that are longer than 397 days. The 397-day limit comes from industry rules that set the maximum length of an SSL certificate.
If your SSL certificate is part of this subscription service:
GoDaddy requests a renewal for your certificate 30 days before it expires.
The automatic renewal helps keep your website secure without you needing to request each renewal manually.
You receive subscription renewal emails instead of one-time renewal offers.
Pricing for your SSL renewal can change between subscription terms. Taxes and fees may also be added at the time of billing.
How to stop automatic renewal
If you no longer use the service that relies on the SSL certificate and do not want to keep renewing it, you can turn off auto-renew.
Sign in to your GoDaddy account.
Go to your account settings or product list.
Find the SSL certificate you want to change.
Open the renewal or billing settings for that certificate.
Turn off auto-renew for the certificate.
Save your changes.
You can also contact GoDaddy Customer Support to ask them to turn off auto-renew for you or to cancel before the next renewal date. If you decide to let the certificate expire instead, you can ignore the renewal notifications.
