ShareFile Document Retention: Understanding Periods and Modification Rules
Standard Retention Period
ShareFile has a standard 365-day (1-year) document retention period. This policy was established in accordance with AICPA guidelines and is designed for temporary file sharing rather than long-term document storage.
Modifying Retention Periods
When working with document retention in ShareFile, please note the following important rules:
- Retention periods can only be modified at the master folder level
- Changes to retention periods will impact all files within the broader client folder or ShareFile as a whole
- Individual file or subfolder retention periods cannot be edited separately
- Any modifications to retention periods require approval from leadership
Important Considerations
Before requesting changes to document retention periods, consider that the standard 1-year retention policy is aligned with industry best practices for temporary file sharing solutions. If you need to store documents for longer periods, please consult with your team leadership about appropriate storage alternatives.
